Welcome to the Shippensburg Area Time Bank website
Time banks are membership organizations that aim to strengthen community through service. We trade services to each other for Time Dollars. One hour of service equals one Time Dollar. We are made up of members of both Shippensburg University and the Shippensburg community.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the SATB, please click on the picture to your left and "join." You will be asked to create a profile of yourself. Once your submit your profile, our coordinator, Chad Kimmel, will contact you. There is a short film to watch on how the system works, then you will be ready to go. If you found this page but still need help creating a profile, or do not have access to email, please call 717-477-1706.
A TimeBank is a local bank just like any other, except that there is no money involved!
A TimeBank operates on a currency of favors, we like to call them TimeDollars.
Have you ever done a favor for a neighbor? Maybe walked their dog, watched their kids, or driven them to a doctor's appointment? Have you ever asked for a favor in return?
With TimeBanking, you get one TimeDollar for every hour of favors you do for your neighbor. You in turn give those TimeDollars to someone else when they help you out.
No cash, no taxes, no payroll- just neighbors helping neighbors.
An organized TimeBank provides a forum to find people who are willing to do things that you need, as well as finding people who need what you can give.
This is the number one principle in TimeBanking. Everyone has something to give, and everyone's time is worth the same. See our Reasons To Join page to see what you can do for others, and what others might be able to do for you, and remember, the more people we can get to participate in the TimeBank, the more services will be available.
If you are interested in becoming involved, please e-mail your name and phone number to CKimmel@shiptimebank.org. If you don't have an e-mail, please call Chad Kimmel at (717)477-1706
